Commercial Sector: The Old Courthouse
The project involved the restoration and conversion of a former Beaux-Arts style Magistrates Court into 40 No. Offices to create an Enterprise Centre for new business.
The building was constructed in 1929, its symmetrical design also housed prison holding cells. The design was modelled by the buildings former use, the main staircase balustrade consisted of stainless steel mesh reflecting the penal history . Elsewhere, exposed brickwork and exposed MEP services were provided, raw stainless steel kitchen products were used to form a social hub in the Reception area.
New MEP services were installed throughout the building and each office is provided with its own IT connection available from any external service provider. The design of the services complements the unique finishes to emphasise the building's Art Deco past. Within the lofty Courtrooms, mezzanine floors have been introduced and the original iron roof trusses exposed and artificially illuminated as a feature.
